Flight to Kansas City, Legends

We woke up bright and early this morning to head out for our flight to Kansas City. Poor Drew got up at 3am to finish dishes and load the van, letting Maria and the boys “sleep in” til 4am. Ack! Angie graciously drove us to the airport for our 6:30am flight. Thanks, Ang! Maria was really hoping to see her friends Christine and Wayne at the airport, as they were flying the same airline as us with a flight out at 6am. But we passed by the gate RIGHT after they finished boarding the “A” group, which was of course the group they were in. Boo boo. Maria called them and said goodbye. It would have been fun to see them.
Our flight was on-time. So we boarded the plane and we were on our way! The boys are really beginning to enjoy flying. Jeremy had fun looking out the windows when we were still parked at the terminal. He asked why none of the planes were moving. Maria explained that it was because they were parked for people to get on and off. Jeremy wanted to see them go fast! It was a direct flight. The longest the boys have ever been on a plane in one straight shot. We usually get a layover somewhere in the middle for snack and potty break. But our nutritious 4am breakfast of donuts was able to tide us over.
We were pretty hungry by the time we landed. But no rest for the weary! We rode the shuttle from the terminal to the rental car building. We decided to rent a full-size car this trip, since we didn’t have a ton of luggage, we figured we’d save some money by foregoing a van. They offered us an upgrade at the rental counter, but we didn’t want to pay the extra money, so we passed. Then they gave us some paperwork and told us to go outside and pick any car we wanted that was parked in our “full size” category. And lucky us! There was a BRAND new Toyota Sienna (that’s a minivan) parked in the full size category. We hopped on in! So we scored a minivan for a full size price. That was sweet. And we were the first people to ever drive that van. The odometer had only 4 miles on it.
Check out that brand new odometer (we managed to drive 45 miles the first day)!

So we drove to the Hilton and checked into our room. Then we promptly headed downstairs to the cafe for lunch. We were so hungry! The cafe was really good. Good service and food. But we didn’t linger – as we were all ready for a nap. We went to our room and slept from 2:30 til 6pm! We were one tired bunch.

After naps, we decided to drive to the shopping area, Legends, where we went with Tim last time we visited Kansas City. It was really nice and we liked it last time, so we wanted to check out what else was there. We needed to pick up some black socks for Jeremy to wear at the wedding, so we just bought those and walked all around. Kansas City is known as the “City of Fountains”, and there is a really nice one at Legends. The boys had a lot of fun just walking around, looking at the fountain, and checking out all there was to see. We visited a Halloween store and saw tons of great costumes. Aiden said, “I think I like this city.” We had some nice family time. Then we decided to eat a small dinner at Dave and Buster’s. Maria has always wanted to go to a Dave and Busters, so Andrew agreed and we figured the kids would have fun. We had a quick bite, then spent the evening playing games. Maria accidently forgot the camera at the dinner table when we left. But luckily, our server found it and had it when we returned 30 mins later, realizing it was missing. Oops! We played skee ball, lots of skill games to try to win tickets, some virtual jump roping, and the boys had an arcade motorcycle race. They earned 454 tickets! Aiden picked out an egg with a volcano inside that bubbles when you add water and reveals a dinosaur. We’ll try that out tomorrow. Jeremy just went straight for a plastic T-Rex. He spent the rest of the evening and the whole walk back to the van making the dinosaur roar, “RAAAHHHHHH!” They both also picked little plastic stretchy frogs, which they seemed quite impressed with. It was a fun evening. But we’re beat. So time for bed. Tomorrow the guys go pick up their tuxedos! Until then...
